The following information is available for Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church and Cemetery:
founded 1849 and located in Wetaug, Illinois
Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church sits atop a hill just north of Wetaug in northwestern Pulaski County. Mt. Pisgah was comprised of families from Rowan County, North Carolina and adjacent counties who had begun migrating to Illinois in the 1810's. Mt. Pisgah was a rather large congregation at the turn of the century, but near the end of the 1920's, membership fell rapidly. In 1963, with only 18 adult members, the congregation voted itself out of existence. Among the families at Mt. Pisgah we find Bame, Barringer, Braddy, Casper, Earnhart, Goodman, Hartline, Hight, Hofner, Kesler, Knupp, Lentz, Lingle, McIntosh, Miller, Mowery, Osman, Peeler, RedCloud, Rider, Sowers, Stoner, Trexler, and others. The present building was built in the 1880's. The congregation of Mt. Pisgah transferred its property to the Cemetery Committee in 1963 at the time of disbandment. The present building was refurbished inside and out in 1976 with all efforts to make it as original as possible. In 1986 a new roof was installed due to the generosity of many sons and daughters of Mt. Pisgah. The Cemetery Committee does a great job of maintaining both the church and cemetery. They and many others recognize that Mt. Pisgah is a special and hallowed place. Those on the Cemetery Committee will also tell you that if not for the miracles and God-sends the continued presence of the Mt. Pisgah Church building would be doubtful. 1925 coverage of the Miller Reunion. The location mentioned is the former Homer Miller property. Pulaski Enterprise, Friday, 11 Sep 1925: Miller Reunion At the old Miller homestead west of Wetaug last Sunday was held the annual Miller reunion. On the site of the original Miller home, the first log cabin of which was still standing, gathered two hundred and ninety-five Millers and descendants of the first Miller family to settle in Pulaski County. The children of Devault Miller were fifteen in number, most of whom were represented at this reunion. After a splendid basket dinner served at a long table set among the trees of their historic old homestead, the members and descendants of the various children of Devault Miller were assembled in their respective groups and it was found that Zebedee Miller branch had the greatest number there with a total of forty with probably fifteen more of the young folks who were too bashful to get in the group.Judge C. W. Miller of this city delivered the address of the day and he and his family were officially adopted as members of the Devault Miller family with full rights to attend all reunions hereafter. The reunion next year will be held at the same place on the last Sunday in September.
